If you plan to visit in the spring, roughly April through June is prepared to be dazzled. Spring’s warm weather brings forth a feast for the eyes with abundant and colorful wildflowers blanketing the landscape. During this part of the year the Sequoia groves are still blanketed in beautiful snow. During spring, the rivers and creeks in the park run very fast and are particularly dangerous so beware.

 

Summer is a hot and glorious time at . From July to about mid-September, the snow has melted off of the High Sierra passes and most of the facilities are open. Although you may be tempted to wade into a river, be very careful as they run very swift. During this time you can check out a ranger-led nature program or a Crystal Cave tour.

 

Fall, mid-September to November, is a great time to visit the park. The foothills have cooled down and rains begin toward the end of this season. Light snows may even fall in late October, although the flakes melt rather quickly. During this season the facilities begin to reduce their hours or close altogether and there are fewer ranger programs taking place.

 

If you visit the park in winter, you won’t be disappointed. This season runs from November to April and gives you the opportunity to see the Sequoia groves at their snowiest and most peaceful. It’s a time of serenity and solitude in the park. You can take a free snowshoe walk with a ranger if you’re the adventurous type.
